FloMet Wins Grand Prize - MPIF 2009

Local Executive Accepts Grand Prize in International Design Competition

 

Tom Grimsley, manufacturing engineer, FloMet LLC, Deland, Florida, accepted a Grand Prize in the 2009 Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards Competition.  The award was given for a 316L stainless steel compressed-air nozzle.  Fabricated by the metal injection molding process, the hollow nozzle consists of top and bottom halves that are molded separately and then joined together into one piece during debinding and sintering. The nozzle won the Grand Prize in the Hand Tools/Recreation category.

 

He accepted the award for his company at PowderMet2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Challenge:  To develop a coining process that would produce consistent dimensions throughout the length of the curved blade thus assuring blade interference for cutting efficacy.
