IMPACT STRENGHT

ABSTRACT

Impact energies of metal injection molded (MIM) steels are investigated. A notched Charpy test specimen for the MIM process is proposed. Two alloys (410 stainless steel and low carbon Fe-7% Ni) are processed and tested for energy absorbed in fracturing the specimens. These values are compared to wrought alloys. The results demonstrate that MIM alloys can be successfully tested for impact strength using standard notched specimen, with results comparable to similar wrought alloys.
